Second Umbilical Cord

Dear readers,

I am at an age where I am trying to rediscover myself in many ways, reflecting upon the life lived /time gone by and the life ahead.

We all know for survival of the newborn the umbilical cord needs to be cut. This cord was the only source of connection between the mother and her child. All throughout nine months, the nutrition and well-being were dependent on these three vessels (two vessel at times). Once the baby is delivered, immediately the cord is clamped and cut. This procedure gives birth to an independent soul.

Parents nurture and raise their child with unconditional love. All this while there is an invisible cord/ connection which connects the parents with their child. The journey from childhood to teenage to young adult seems to happen at a snap of finger.

Children now young adults start taking charge of their own lives, making their own decisions and so on. The need to seek constant approval from parents start a downhill trend. This period causes lot of inner turmoil in parents especially mothers. As parents they still tend to cling on to memory of their child and yearn to see them coming to them for all their life's challenges. This is the time for them to fly out of the nest into the big world.

Parents need to be vigilant about this time period in their children's life as their unconditional love and support is needed for the extra push to propel them into their growth trajectory.

This is the time to cut the second umbilical cord.

I know my timeline. Pray you identify yours.

Love, Juju

In conversation with GOD-Part 1

Dear readers,

Early morning tea time with Popsie always makes me dwell upon my purpose in life. By the time I take my last sip, I feel enriched with a phenomenal experience.

Sharing a conversation between two friends about their dreams. Senior Advocate (my Popsie) and his friend ( retired Army officer of highest rank).

In Part-1, I will share the conversation of Popsie's friend (AO- Army officer) with God. Enjoy the conversation, dwell upon the hidden message.

AO : God, my time has come. I want to come to your kingdom directly.

GOD : No, you can't!

AO: But why? I need a direct ticket.

GOD : My train is already running over load, I need to shift many people to hospitals.

AO: God! I want a direct ticket. Please guide me through.

GOD smiles : Look, you can't come directly. The first class compartment is almost always overloaded. I need to unload many humans beings to hospitals (coporate and private).

In second class also, the capacity always exceeds leading to off loading in hospitals ( government and small private.)

Your only chance is in third class compartment. And I know you are a passenger of first class.

AO persuades, God, there must be some way. Please guide me.

GOD smiles and continues, Since, you seem to be very keen. I will share my secret route. Sit in the third class compartment without any ticket and any  money. When TC comes for checking, he will pronounce you as a defaulter. He will call the police, case will be registered, referred to Enforcement. Then you will be directly presented before me. That will be your direct ticket.

AO woke up from his sleep, smiled, felt relieved. For now he knew the way.

The real challenge was how to downgrade oneself from first class to third class.

This conversation in dream led me to deciphering the anology of first classs, second class, third class and metaphors used. Please share your thoughts in comments section.

To be continued..........

Hey, wait, I didn't decipher it. It goes like

P- Passion

It's ok to let it go !

Dear readers,

We are marching towards the new year. Living by my Momsie's philosophy of "live in the moment", I am trying my best to make the most of each day. Everyday I try to be a better version of myself.

Last evening , I was watching a Christmas movie and was overwhelmed when the protagonist remembers her mother.  Suddenly, my vision blurred due to tears in my eyes. I wept more than the protagonist.

I felt a tap on my shoulder. I was taken aback as i was alone in my space in my home, watching the movie. I looked up and saw my Momsie smile and said, " Raju ! It's ok to let it go! Clinging on to memories is fine, but its important to make new memories too. Enjoy your life and create new memories. Don't hold back. It's ok to let it go."

Let it go ! what ? my grief ! my memories of my mother! Am I still stuck in the loop of grief -guilt after losing her !

Many thoughts started coming, suddenly the mental traffic became chaotic and I felt exhausted. I closed my eyes, remembered her words, " It's ok to let it go!"

Today morning when I woke up, something has definitely gone as I my heart feels lighter and happier. Hope, you also experience this magical feel. Let go of things which are holding you back from living a fulfilled fun-filled life. Cheers to Christmas spirit.

Love,

Juju

Koi no Yokan!

Dear readers,

How many of you like December - cold weather, Christmas and New Year eve ?

Although I am not a winter person, yet I love this month. Since childhood, I have loved reading stories and watching movies about white Christmas, cakes, cookies, Santa, reindeers and decorations. Pray Santa makes this wish come true next year.

To soothe my craving soul, I watch Christmas theme centric movies. Last evening, I watched a beautiful crisp movie set in New York and Vermont. There is this phrase used by the main protagonist -

" Koi no Yokan!"

This is a famous saying in Tokyo which means - that you will fall in love with the person you just met (love premonition).

I found it very profound and powerful. The whole movie is about opening up, giving oneself another chance in life and being courageous in taking this step.

While penning my thoughts, I am whispering this (so that my reader falls in love with my thoughts.)

I pray my reader looks into the mirror and says, " Koi no Yokan!"

Love,

Juju

DKDK

I invented this term DKDK during a routine conversation with a friend. Having walked on this blue planet for a long time with around fifty revolutions around the sun, both of us have a good amount of experience.

Our younger ones are about to enter medical school. There are many challenges to explore, discuss and deal with, like deciding college, city, academics , hostel, extra curricular etc besides the lurking "empty nest syndrome." With spouses from different ideologies and backgrounds , we are each other's support system. She casually commented, " My husband doesn't listen to things which he has not seen and heard. Even if I give him sufficient evidence, he seldom believes." She paused to take a breath.

I interrupted, "It's simple, it's DKDK!"

She forgot to inhale and gave me a questioning look - DKDK ?

I smiled and explained," Look, majority of us don't know that we don't know. One believes their limited knowledge as whole and complete. Thus, making them non receptive. A human mind knows only 0.01% , rest is not known and the mind doesn't know. Hope it helps you understand humans especially your spouse better."

We had a hearty laugh as we echoed DKDK.

Open letter by Daughter in-law

Sharing one of my popular short story selected as the first story in a Book, Book Launch, January 13th 2024 KLC 24 (Kolkata Literary Carnival 2024).

An open letter by daughter in-law to her mother in-law

(This is not a grievance letter. It’s my attempt to help you understand our new relation)

Dear mother in-law,

Hope this finds you in good health and a happy state of mind. Ever since I have got married to your son, I have noticed a change in your attitude and behavior. Earlier you seemed very welcoming and happy but now I sense a feeling of insecurity. Do you see me as a threat? I feel so. You seem to be critical about whatever I do or say especially in relation to your son who is now my husband.

We both have a great thing in common and that is love for the same man. I am not here to break ties of a son from his mother. A son you have given birth to and raised him with your heart and soul. I am here to make my own space as a wife and his life partner.

Please do not burden him like this. I have many aspirations and look forward to a peaceful, harmonious married life. Inadvertently or purposely, you create differences in conveying my thoughts.

A mother has a big heart. All I am requesting is to give me space and time to adjust in your family. I have come from an entirely different background and culture. All this is new and very different. I need time to unlearn and relearn.

Another request, please do not compare me with your other children. They are great as sister/ brother in-laws. Let me build up a relation with them on one to one basis. You should be a secure, loving women. Why this insecurity?

Please refrain from negative feedback about me to my husband. Most of the times, I never come to know why he is upset? I do have noticed this pattern that after spending time with you and his siblings, he always comes back disempowered with a volatile temperament

Please do not compare me with other daughter in-laws in your friend’s circle. Each human being is different. This alliance happened because of mutual consent between the girl, the boy and their respective families. Then why I am made to feel like a villain on mission to break this home!

Remember how you felt when you got married. The onus is always on elders to make the house environment comfortable for the new bride person. We need to work together to make this work.

I have come as an adult in your life unlike your children whom you have raised up. Let’s respect this beautiful relation of mother in-law and daughter in-law and work towards maintaining its sanctity.

Please communicate if you disapprove of some actions or my ways. If you don’t, then how will I come to know? We need to keep this communication gates always open.

Lets pledge to contribute. Please do not compete with me.

Yours,

Daughter in-law

Free-lancing!

Free-lancing!

Hello readers,

Since last five months or so, I am facing a crisis situation ever since my long-term house helper left the job suddenly as her children were going to Dubai. Since then, no helper is staying for longer than 1 week period. I have given chance to so many of them, that I have lost count. The shortest time period is one day.

These days, house help are in demand. There is always shortage. To combat this, each helper has taken many houses to improve their financial status. Recently, I learnt about few maids in a prime location with catchment houses exceeding their physical limitations. The way out is to skip houses in rotation (day offs), do other houses and so on. The salary of extra 2-3 houses is like a bonus. As on a single day they work in designated number of houses, and keep this cycle of rotation and day off.

Yesterday, incident was out of league. As usual a Nepali lady came enquiring about work. I told her about cleaning the houses and utensils. To which she replied, “Madamji! I am a cook. I was told you need a cook. But if you will insist, I will do the cleaning part.”

I replied, “I have a cook, I need help for the said work.”

Immediately. Her eyes lit up and she said, “I will ask my sister-in-law. She is into free-lancing.”

I was surprisingly shocked, “Free - lancing?”

She said, “Yes, free-lancing. It means you fix up working hours and salary and the work you want her to do. She is multi-talented. She has "khula khaata for work". Means you need to decide the work areas prior to hiring her. Unlike me, I can only cook food.”

A smile came up and I said, “Please send your free -lancer tomorrow.”

That’s another story that this lady went back to Nepal without informing. My search is still on. But I loved the use of this word in a maid's vocabulary. Seems like corporate culture is seeping in Maids community too.

Love,

Juju.

Doctor! What should I do?

Doctor Diary Entries

Doctor! What should I do?

Disclaimer: Non -fiction anecdotes. Names have not been used to maintain privacy.

There is one NRI patient who comes every year for her ultrasound – mainly mammography, abdominal and pelvis studies. It’s been more than two years now that she has visited my centre. I pray to almighty for her well-being.

She works as a registered nurse in some foreign country (can’t recollect the name). She used to come to meet her daughter who was five years and living with her parents.

During initial check-ups, it used to be a very professional conversation. Gradually, she became more than just a patient. She had come to India for silicone breast implants and a follow up mammogram. During her next visit she told me her implant had leaked and she had to get it done again. During that particular visit, I noticed change in her appearance too. She confided, “Doctor, I come to India for cosmetic surgeries. Last year I had come for silicon breast implants. Now I have come for lip fillers, cheek contouring, tummy tuck and enhanced back.”

My jaw literally dropped and I couldn’t help but ask, “Why so many surgeries? What do you do? Are you into films?” She said, “No, doctor! I am a registered nurse.” I did not utter a word and gave her the reports. While collecting her reports, she politely asked, “Doctor, can I see you when you are free! I want to share my story “I replied, “Sure, we can sit once I am through with my patients.” She went to do her chores and returned.

Suddenly she started sobbing softly and said, “Doctor, I am tired of these plastic surgeries. I want to be a mother to my daughter. I want to take my daughter with me,” I just listened silently. She continued, “My husband is very particular about my physical appearance. Every year he suggests a plastic surgery and forces me to get it done from India. Chance of seeing my daughter always motivates me. I spend all my savings on these surgeries. He wants to change my look.” She pulled out a photo from her purse and said, “See, this picture. This is how I used to look, now I feel like a mannequin. I don’t recognize the person I see in the mirror every day.”

She started crying inconsolably. " Ours was a love marriage. I went against my parents to marry him. I have changed everything to make him happy. Still, he finds a fault in something or other, Plus, he doesn’t want to keep our daughter with us. He feels the baby will intrude into our privacy.”, she concluded. We sat in silence. We had another round of tea. Finally, she spoke, “Thank you mam! for your patient listening. Please guide me.”

I took a deep breath trying to assimilate what I had just heard in the last one hour.It definitely didn't sound real. I silently prayed to God for the right words. Words blurted out from my mouth.

"Please show me your husband’s pic, what does he do by profession?"I enquired. She pulled out a photograph from her purse and said, “He is a Hair stylist and works in a Unisex Salon.” I couldn’t believe, what I saw!  In the picture, I saw a middle-aged man with receding hairline, unkempt beard, stained yellow teeth and a protruding belly. “You are doing to please this man?”, I pointed at his picture. She said, “He is my husband. He has this fancy of a perfect wife and forces me to undergo these life-threatening procedures. Doctor! what should I do ? What should I change?”

“Live your life, your way, take your daughter with you. And this time, Change, your husband,” I replied softly and gave her a re-assuring glance. She smiled, thanked me and left. I could see a confidence in her stride.

I have not seen her since last two years. Hope all is well at her end.

This patient's story was an eye opener (Seems like a script of some movie.)

Keep reading, keep sharing. Keep loving, keep caring.

Love,

Juju

CAP person !

Hello readers,

I am sharing a very interesting concept which I recently learnt. Although, many of us must be already practicing this in our day to day lives, I was enchanted by the term “CAP person”.

Right from our developmental stage, each soul develops their own ways to live and devise coping mechanisms accordingly. When life hits a rough patch or we tend to find ourselves on cross roads, CAP person works like a BLS -Basic Life Support system.

Right CAP is of utmost importance to protect us from harsh weather and helps us in braving the chill/ adversities of life.

We have our inner circle as well as an outer circle. Blessed are those souls who have that one person in their life, who prevents their life from derailing from the main track or acts like an oxygen mask in times of suffocation.

This soul is a good listener, is non-judgemental, self-motivated with a positive attitude and always leaves you empowered.  The onus is on us to identify such souls and cherish the bonds.

Parent of an Average/ a Unique child !

Chapter 38 (edited), page 97 of my Debut Book - Momsie Popsie Diary Tea time chit chat on living life (Golden Book Awards 2023) Available as Paperback & e-book on Amazon and all e-commerce sites.

I often get asked, .... Your child must be good in maths, science, studies in general...
I simply say no, he is not. My child is average.
Am I ashamed to say this?  Yes? No !

Should I be lying that he is the best in something which he is not, in front of others? Definitely No !

My child is that average child who people fail to notice either for not being at the top or being at the bottom. People fail to notice the sweet smile, funny talks, tight hugs, friendly personality, kind behavior, mild manners, helpful nature because he is JUST an average child. The school, society celebrates children who are top scorers or good in sports and extra-curricular, which rightfully they should. These celebrations have a short life span.

Amidst all this, my average child who is a spectator and cheers his friends with full heart goes unnoticed. His love for sports (even when he knows he is not going to be selected for school team) his love for music (even though he knows he is not going to be selected for school choir) never diminishes. He participates in all and does all this to enjoy it rather to compete.

Am I a parent, who is not strict with him for not scoring at the top. Yes, I used to be strict to an extent and have lost my cool many times in the past. However, I transformed when h
is words pierced through my every heart muscle. My 11 year old child asked, "Mom, do you not respect me for who am I "?

How many of us thought we should respect children?  We adults demand our respect each and every moment of our life. Why not a child? Among children preparing for JEE-IIT, NEET UG-MBBS from a tender age of 9-10 years (I feel it's cruel, akin to killing childhood in pursuit of trophy child competition), my average child is talking about traveling the world, meeting new people, reading new books of different genre's, tasting different cuisines, enjoying each day to the fullest and so on.

My average child might or might not become a doctor, astronaut, scientist But he is sure to grow up to be a good person, who will spread cheer, happiness and positivity.
Last but not least: a message for ONE and ALL

*Notice the average child. All that child wants is a smile or a kind word from us adults for just being their true self, and to give assurance to trust the world.
Personally,  I believe there is no term as average. Each child is unique

Please refrain from making Xerox copies of our own selves.
They are children of future.
For generations to evolve : let us help in maintaining their originality.

Each child is different, so is each parenting style. Lets preserve this, cherish and celebrate our unique child.

Love,
Juju

Analogy for Relations

(Simple, kind way to save relations and stay strong)

·    *Inspired write up. Dedicated to Twinkle - my dear friend

It’s of utmost important to have a positive, motivating inner circle. Conversation with  such souls usually leaves one motivated, brimming with new recipes for My Mind’s Café.

A routine conversation drifted to maintaining relations, it’s importance and the best ways to handle them amicably.

I casually remarked, “Some relations are like bedsheets with manufacturing defects (In Hindi language we refer to it as kapde ke kaan hain). No matter how carefully you try to fold them neatly, one corner will always jutt out in the most obnoxious way giving it a very untidy look.”

Hearing this my friend laughed and said, “I look it from a different perspective. Some relations are like that subject in your school life, no matter how hard you study, try to revise, you never cross beyond 80 marks,” she remarked.

“That’s such a beautiful and an interesting analogy. Comparing a relation to a subject which is difficult or one dislikes, as it brings down your total aggregate (means your wholesome life.) Wow! Its so profound,” I replied.

I continued, “It sounds funny too, to say my XY relation is like a Punjabi language for me. No matter how hard I try to learn, I can never cross 85 and it brings down my % from 99 to 96 %. If we delve into deeply, there is a hidden deep meaning,” I paused and thanked her.

Just as I have to study Punjabi, to be able to pass my class in school, similarly I need to work on that relation too in order to pass the class of life.

She remarked on a lighter note, “Many of your blog write ups have churned from our talks. You owe me a treat.”

" Off course!, anytime, as always, " I chuckled.

Please write in comments section about your views about this analogy.

Which subject is your relation, mine is Punjabi. Yours?

Love,

Juju

3 in a relationship (marriage)!

Three in a relationship (marriage)!

Recently, there has been a rising trend in souring of relationships. The culprit is almost always the third entity in the relationship. It is very important to identify this.

I distinctly remember from an old interview of Late Princess Diana where she had said,” We were always three in a marriage. So, it was a bit crowded.” To my young mind as a student, these lines had a great impact. These two lines always come up whenever I hear about disturbed relationships.

The most common third entity nowadays is mobile phone. Let’s keep aside the new vocabulary terms-, ghosting, phubbing etc, associated with this. I feel this is the most powerful third entity.  Earlier, extra marital affairs were the leading cause of souring. Now a days, it's the affair with one’s own gadgets – mobile, television, laptops.

Gone are the days when couples/ families used to sit together, discuss about each other’s days. Now, everyone is engrossed in checking their mobiles. The neck is seldom raised even to look at the family person sitting right across. It’s always about utilizing every second, so much so that family/couple time is considered as mere wastage of time by majority. This has impacted in way beyond one can comprehend.

Recently, one of my close associates, thought about kicking this third entity out of her relationship. So, they experimented on the morning tea by keeping their mobiles aside and not switching on the T.V. Initially, they found it very difficult to just sit together while having morning cup of tea. Internally, they felt it was a waste of time. They could have listened to news or checked their messages/emails to save time. They realized they had nothing to talk. Over next few days, they became impatient and tried to drink their tea in an ultra fast manner. By the end of first week, they decided to give up tea, as it was bad for health. The third entity had deep roots and poor tea was pronounced as the culprit and punished.

The same experiment was tried for meals - dinner time. The family had got used to eating separately. When they sat together in person without their gadgets, there was uneasiness and each one started finding flaws in the taste of meals, even the shape and softness of chapattis, crockery, even the fine dust on dining table There was impatience and each one decided to eat in their rooms. They had nothing to talk. Even the lady of the house thought, when her family ate in a fully attentive state, they found faults in almost everything. With their mobiles, they relish whatever is cooked and don’t complain. This experiment failed too.

Another experiment is under run -of going for couple walks and family walks. Each one has ear pods in place and seems to be happily walking. The moment the ear pod is out, the person stops walking. This reminds me of the famous dialogue from the film Sholay where Gabbar tells Basanti, “Jab tak tere pair chaleinge, tab tak iski saanse challeingi.”

Awaiting an update on this experiment. Pray it is successful. And proves humans are not slaves to social gadgets. Till then, do introspect and identify your third!

Family time happens only when there is no Wi-Fi or hotspot. I bless the electricity board in my area.

Keep reading, keep sharing.

Spam the chat ! Is your message/chat taken as a spam ?

Hello beautiful souls,

From now on I am thinking of sharing my blogs and other activities on social media- WhatsApp status, Instagram and Facebook only. Please drop a "hello" if you want to receive as a personal message.

“Maa, are you spamming?” my little monk remarked when he saw me share my write up with my family, friends and colleagues.

“No, I am sharing the link for ease of the readers. In my circle, one finds it convenient to just click the link and read. It helps me in increasing my blog readership,” I calmly replied.

“Maa, these days everyone’s phone gets loaded with so many greetings, shares and other messages every day. And it’s a humungous task to keep one's mobile memory space free. It takes time to transfer important images/ data into hard disk. It’s just like cleaning the house, cleaning one’s mind, thoughts etc. At times, important messages are missed. I fear your messages may be taken as spam,” he casually replied.

Now was the time to adorn my thinking cap yet again. I could clearly visualise as to what my little monk was trying to convey. In digital era, with fast paced lives, and limited time to self, I was contributing to the digital data load. Lot of time goes in archiving important messages, deleting others, clearing gallery, updating etc.

My intention has always been to create awareness about my mission and work. I believe my posts are positive and inspiring. Few souls may differ. In today’s world, everyone wants to have the sharing edge. Only your inner circle resonates with you. Suddenly, it was crystal clear. I believe in theory of Karma and try my best to keep my karmic account clear

So, I decided to be more selective in sharing my activities and write ups.  Whenever I text message, I want to convey, that the concerned person is important and in my prayers.

From now on, I will share the link on social media and my selected group. If you are receiving my message, it means you have a special place in my life.

I have done my part. Hope each one of us shares authentic messages, minimize data burden and keep karmic account clear.

Love,

Juju.

ASD -The Ignored Ongoing Pandemic!

Attention Seeking Disorder!

(The Ignored Ongoing Pandemic)

For many people, receiving some level of attention – to a greater or lesser degree, depends on one’s individual personality – is a basically pleasurable experience. In general terms, being noticed can instinctively make people feel good, as it provides us with validation. However, when a person constantly craves the attention of others, and that need is affecting their thoughts, decisions and behaviour, they may be dealing with Attention Seeking Disorder (ASD), a part of spectrum of Histrionic Personality Disorder.

ASD is often viewed negatively, particularly when it comes from an adult. This affects relationships in all spheres – personal, professional and general. This stems from a range of factors, and can have a serious impact on the life of the person dealing with it, as well as those around them.

Ask yourself, do you know someone who is constantly fishing for compliments, or feel the need for recognition in order to be happy? Have you noticed something in your own behaviour that made you think, ‘do I have ASD?  It’s important to identify the red flags before it becomes problematic.  Let’s take a closer look at what ASD is -

In adults, Attention Seeking Disorder is defined as excessive and repeated attempts by an individual to make themselves the centre of attention; in other words, when a person constantly tries to direct other people’s focus toward themselves. It can be common for people around the individual to find them egotistical, an exhibitionist, or ‘a show-off’. This behaviour may occur consciously or unconsciously, depending on the individual nature of the case, but almost always manifest in efforts to gain admiration or validation in some way.

ASD is characterised by having its motivation rooted in jealousy, loneliness, or low levels of self-esteem. This is generally as a result of imbalanced or unhealthy emotional state, and they constantly feel the urge to receive attention and validation. This behaviour over an extended period can damage or destroy intimate relationships, and can cause rapid mood swings and emotional shifts.

Examples of Attention Seeking Behaviour

Though they are always driven at gaining the attention of other people, the behaviours associated with ASD can take many forms. Sometimes, it is clear to see. For example, a person making direct and inflammatory comments; at other times, the behaviour can be more subtle or difficult to identify. Sharing few common behaviours.

1)    Making deliberately provocative comments, with the person appearing to desire to make other people uncomfortable, or ‘push the boundary’

2)    Behaving in a controversial way, perhaps overt promiscuity or blatant exhibitionism, or other things that may be seen as ‘showing off’

3)    Constantly dragging the topic or focus of conversation back onto themselves

4)    Frequently boasting about their own actions, possessions, wealth or experiences.

5)    Behaving dramatically or tending to overblow negative experiences into complete disasters.

6)    Constantly blaming the other person for lack of empathy, understanding, love, care and making them feel responsible (akin to gas lighting and narcissist trait)

However, one must remember that some amount of attention seeking behaviour is normal, natural and a prime tendency. Humans are social creatures and a desire for validation is a natural emotional urge.

To be continued Part 2………

Till then identify the red flags.

Love,

Juju

Mam ji! Are we dirty ?

Visit to slums is inspiring. The smile on little children’s faces and their eagerness to see new books is unmatched. My JRC Mobile library runs every week and caters to 3 evening schools and around 50 children. These children are getting used to the idea of issuing fancy, glossy books (primary education) and returning too. They wait eagerly for every Thursday evening for JRC mobile library.

Today, I decided to go early with a friend on my two-wheeler. As I steered my two wheeler on a rough patch towards slums, we could see many small children running towards us smiling, cheering and shouting.” Good afternoon mam ji! Namaste mam ji”.

There is one particular boy who always greets me with the brightest smiles and expresses his eagerness to study in the evening school. Every time, he tells the same story, his parents didn’t agree. Afterall begging is easier, hard work is less and earning more.

Today he came and said, "Mam ji, I have got my Aadhar card and have enrolled in your evening school, Next week, I will also issue book from the library.”

I patted him and went ahead to issue books. On my return, I saw swarm of little boys around 5-7 years of age sitting on my two-wheeler, touching each and every part of my Activa. Few had running noses; they were wiping their noses with bare hands and touching.

I spoke sternly to get away from my two-wheeler. That same boy and few other said, “Mam ji, if we sit on your seat or touch your two-wheeler, it will get dirty! You consider us dirty, isn’t it?” They lowered their head and their smiles vanished.

I replied cheerfully, “Children! You are not dirty, my Activa is dirty. If you touch, you will smear your hands with dirt. Look, there is a layer of thick dirt all around.” They all smiled as they slid their fingers along the rear aspect. On seeing a layer of dirt on their fore finger, they exclaimed, “Mam ji! You are right, we are not dirty.” They smiled and retreated.

As I started the ignition, I asked them, “What do you want to eat next week?”

“Apples “, they said in a chorus.

On my way back, I recollected the incident and realized, my few words had acted like a moral booster for them. They are so used to being shooed away, it is drilled in their system. I smiled as I remembered their happy faces, “Mam ji we are not dirty.”

Deep inside, I know on my next visit, few more children will come forward to study.

The ice had been broken.

I upheld my vision of “Lets ignite the mind: before we light the Diyas.” JRC Theme for year 2023-24

Love,

Juju
